Just a quick update for those of you planning to go to Miami for the pen show at the DoubleTree by Hilton Miami Airport & Convention Center in July. The first round of post cards will be sent in early July as an early reminder for folks in the South East. States I will be mailing to include Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana. This will be a mass mailing. Other postcards will be sent to lists in many other states.  Press releases will be sent to media outlets in late June or early July with the hopes of getting press coverage before and during the show. We have a substantial room block at the hotel at the great rate of $119 per night, ensuring everyone can get a room. Dealers will be listed in the coming weeks, and if you still have not decided to attend, please do consider this show. I have dealers coming from all across the USA, as well as all over the world, giving the Miami Pen show a truly international prominence, which in turn will bring more attention to the show and more folks coming through the doors.

This year, the show will have more seminars and classes to keep attendees busy all weekend long.  Classes will include calligraphy, early introduction to cursive writing and/or journaling, how to buy and sell on eBay, what pen should I look at when first collecting, vintage vs. modern, how any fountain pen can improve your handwriting, and the beginner’s guide to Instagram, Facebook, and the social media revolution, and many more still in the works that I’ll be posting as we finalize them.  The show will not end each night at the designated time.  But it will continue on into the night with afterparties and social media get-togethers.  We have partnered with Fountain Pen Day, and Bryan Hulser of Kenro Industries (i.e. Aurora, Montegrappa, Bugatti, Tibaldi, Dalvey, and U-Boat).

Also, I’d like to recognize the sponsor of the show, Yafa Pen Company, distributor and manufacturer of great brands like Delta, Stipula, Conklin, and Monteverde.  Yafa Brands - where a world of luxury and innovation become one!

Retro 1951 Bouquet Ballpoint Limited Edition

Written by Bert Oser

Retro 51 Bouquet Limited Edition

The new Retro 1951 Bouquet Popper Limited Edition pen is a beautifully imagined, pastel themed pen!  Spring, Easter, and Mother’s Day are just a couple of the reasons for the creation of the new Bouquet Tornado Popper. But then again, who needs a reason?  You don’t need a holiday to justify making a floral design, but with the change of the season perhaps a pop of color is necessary. The Bouquet is printed with several colors, accented with satin gold and the top ring is numbered up to 1008 pieces. The Bouquet popper is a gift for someone special and/or to yourself for surviving yet another cold winter. Whatever the reason, it will surely brighten the day. #Retro51 #Bouquet #LimitedEdition #Pen

Wahl Eversharp Decoband Vintage Collection

Written by Bert Oser

BACK TO THE FUTURE should be the caption for this wonderful pen. The WAHL-EVERSHARP Oversized DECOBAND pneumatic filling pen with SUPERFLEX nib and 2 ml ink capacity sets a new standard for beauty and elegance by recapturing the classic design first introduced in 1929...only bigger and better!  The pen is constructed using the finest materials available. The pen body and cap material are beautiful Rosewood ebonite, all exterior metal is heavily gold plated and the internal mechanism is brass.

Whal Eversharp Decoband

The above came off the Eversharp website. This writer has a whole lot more to say about this collection of writing instruments. One word that comes to mind is "Extrordinary" "Exceptional" "The only truly new pen in years" "Quality" 'Craftmansship" "Percision" "Masive" "All new". A lot of words which are easy to write but they are great place to start. The Deco Band is really well described in these words because there is no modern pen that has come to market in recent years which is really new. Now I'm not saying no good pens are out there. Most are just remakes of the same styles in different colors or the internal workings from most manufactures are used over and over in the new models that are introduced.

That stops with the Deco Band. This pen ia all new. Starting with the size, profile, cap, clip and body. Overall dimensions are below

Overall length with cap closed  14.9cm

Cap length 7cm

Nib tip to barrel end 14.2cm

Lenght with cap posted 19.5cm

Diameter top of cap 1.8cm

Diameter end of barrel 1.4cm

Weight 58gm

While it may be difficult to get a true idea of the impressive nature of these pens let me assure you there is nothing really on the market that compares to this pen.

The Deco band comes in 2 nib options and it's not fine or medium. Superflex and Semiflex both are made from 14 karat gold.  Light pressure forms a fairly fine line and with added pressure a  medium can transform the tip to a very expressive medium or even to a double broad. The flow of ink has no trouble keeping up with this demanding requirement for so much ink. At the time of this writing Bertram's Inkwell will reccomend the Semiflex nib due to its added durability. The Superflex nib while more responsive may require a more disciplined hand that won't bear down with to great a force thus springing or bending the nib. Wahl 14kt Superflex and Semiflex nibs

The filling system of this pen have been completly redesigned from the old original Pneumatic filling systems of yesteryear. While the concept remains the same, all parts are newly enginered in this filling system. The results are quite impressve with a larger than avarage or I might say the largest ink capacity of any modern pen. To fill the pen one unscrews the knurled filler knob at the end of the pen barrel. Pull the pneumatic piston all the way out. Insert the nib completly in ink even covering a small portion of the grip section. Cover the breather hole in the knurled end of the cap with your finger durning the entire down stroke of the filler pistion then release your finger and count to five. Remove the pen form the ink wipe off any excess and our ready to write. What happens when you fill a pen like this is, the filler fills with air and when we press down pressure is created and the sack in the barrel collapses forcing air out of the sack. When we release our finger from  the top of the knob you will hear a wisp of air entering the barrel thus allowing the sac to expand again creating a vacuum and sucking up the ink. If you want to clean out the pen or change inks keep you finger on the breather hole when pushing the pistion down and you will remove most ink and or water.

The collection comes in 3 period appropriate finishes, Rosewood red hard rubber, solid black hard rubber and Marbled Lapis blue. Each is unique in there own way. The fit and finish on the pens is first rate with a zero defect rate in the follwowing categories.

Material: Well above other brands

Nib: 14kt gold smooth with consistant and precise flow.

Feed: Hand painted Ebonite split feed.

Cap: Threaded inner cap, closing on brass threads on the barrel, again precision design threads don't bind or have any difficulty in closoure.

Barrel: section to brass threads flow into barrel with no uncomfortable holding positions.

Clip: Gold plated with high tenstion roller wheel allowing for a pen this size to fit snugly in a pocket or inner jacket.

Box: Complements the pen in grand style; Black lacquer with a soft cloth linening.

An Old Typewriter With Nothing To Do

Written by Bert Oser

My dad called me the other day quite out of the blue, and asked me if I wanted an old German typewriter. What in the world am I gonna do with a 1930's era typewriter, I thought? Then it occured to me that the old German script was quite different than the current style. The old style had all kinds of symbols and accents - even one for "ss". I think the Germans use "ss" more than we do, as I was only able to think of the one word that we use: Mississippi. Anyway, I wanted to figure out a way to incorporate this 85 year old typewriter with my passion for fountain pens.  I came up with the idea to match quotes with pens.  Thus, "Typing Tuesday" was born.  Every week I'm going to carefully select a quote to type out, whether it's humorous or pertinent to the times. Then I'll match it with an appropriate pen to share with you.

Anybody recognize the pen below?  It's definitely an appropriate match to the quote!

Bexley Pen Company 2016 Owners Club

Written by Bert Oser

Howard Levy President and owner of the Bexley Pen Company sent me this information today regarding Bexley's 11th annual Bexley Owners Club pen. Howard tells me and you can see in the picture there are 3 colors to choose from all crafted from Rippled Hard Rubber materials. These Hard Rubber materials are rarely used or even seen since most pens havent been made this way since the 1920's Watermans. How Howard gets the material to make pens like this is unknown but it's  trure testiment to how dedicated Howard is to making some truly extrodinary pens. Each pen has a unique pattern which cant be duplicated be it the Orange and Black the Navy Blue and Black or the Green and Black. Each pen comes with a black hard rubber section, true to the vintage purity rather then a plastic section. The cap comes with Bexley's own rollerball clip. The Blue/Black pens are accented with silver colored or Rhodium trim while the others are trimed in gold plated finishes. This collection is limited to only 40 of each color, or a total of 120 pens!! That's a very small run by this writers standards.

Miami Pen Show 2015 Dadeland Marriott

Written by Bert Oser

http://www.miamipenshow.com

We're looking forward to the 2015 Miami Pen Show!  Dadeland Marriott Miami Pen Show
The show takes place at the Dadeland Marriott Miami Florida, with all the bells and whistles you might expect. But what this hotel offers, which most shows don't, is the ammenities like the Dadeland Mall.  What's the big deal about a mall at a pen show you might ask? Well it's the restaurants that are within walking distance that are located in and around the mall and hotel. I look forward to this venue with a great location just 10 miles south of Miami Int'l Airport, with easy access by car and train tranportation. Lots more to share with you but for now I need to try to figure out the table configuration.  This show will be in the Dantran Ballroom, which at 3500 square feet will only hold approximately 60 tables with wall space at a premium. If we oversell the tables, I've arranged for additional space in the hallway coming into the show, and a repairs - and restoration - specific ballroom.  Trust that you will be cared for at the show with a full sit-down breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday, and boxed lunch delivered to your table on Saturday and Sunday as well.  By covering the cost of breakfast and lunch, you are able to reduce your cost to attend the Miami Pen Show.  Hopefully this benefit exemplifies which pen shows to attend.

Mark your calendar for July 10-12, 2015 for the Miami Pen Show Dadeland.

Just a quick update for those of you that are going to Miami for the pen show at the Dadeland Marriott in July. The first round of post cards will be sent shortly as an early reminder for folks in the South East.  States I will be mailing to include Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana. This will be a mass mailing. Other postcards will be sent to lists in many other states.   And we will have banners on the Miami Herald Online Newspaper starting in early June.  Ads in the Miami Herald (which is the largest newspaper, covering Miami-Dade and Broward counties in south Florida, with an estimated population of 4.5 million people) will run 7-10 days prior to the show. Our marketing efforts ensure maximum exposure.  Book your rooms now because the special pen show rate is only good for a limited time, and be sure to mention the Miami Pen Show when booking.  Dealers will be listed in the coming weeks, and if you still have not decided to attend, please do consider this show. I have dealers coming from all across the USA, as well as Mexico, Russia and South America giving the Miami Pen show a truly international prominance, which in turn will bring more attention to the show and more folks coming through the doors.

Also, many thanks to the main sponsor of the show, Yafa Pen Company, distributor and manufacturer of great brands like DeltaStipulaConklin, and Monteverde.  Yafa Brands - where a world of luxury and innovation become one!

Pelikan Souveran 805 Stresemann

Written by Bert Oser

Pelikan Souveran 805 Stresemann Anthracite Grey

The Pelikan Souveran 805 Stresemann Anthracite Grey

The foreign minister of the Weimar Republic, Gustav Stresemann (1879- 1929), was honored with the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1926: Together with his French colleague Aristide Briand, he was acknowleged for his reconciliatory work between the nations after World War I. Besides his impressive political career, Stresemann also became famous for the creation of a new kind of suit that was still sufficiently formal for official presentations and yet comfortable enough for his work at the office. Stresemann liked to wear suits with thin stripes, and, as life sometimes goes, a legend developed … and suddenly, people called the striped fountain pens from Pelikan -- that were just then starting their global tour of success around the world -- by the name of „Stresemann“.
Both the suits and the pens still carry that name to this day. To officially acknowledge and honor this legend, Pelikan has now named the latest addition to the standard collection, the Souverän with elegant stripes in anthracite, the „Stresemann“.
The barrel with the deceptively simple anthracite stripes is made of cellulose acetate, using a traditional process that‘s extremely work-intensive. For the black, finely turned pieces, high-quality resin was used. The clip and the rings are plated with palladium. The nib is made of 18 carat gold and then completely rhodinized to obtain a silver sheen. Every single writing instrument is mounted by hand and carefully checked to fulfill the strictest quality criteria.

Benefits of Journaling

Written by Bert Oser

Hi folks!

I just read an article about the benefits of journaling that I want to share with you.  It's really cool and informative!  Personally, I make sure to journal every day.  Whether it's to chronicle my daily activities, keep track of accomplishments, or to use therapeutically, I find keeping a journal incredibly helpful and beneficial.  Plus, there's nothing quite like the smoothness of a fountain pen putting my words to paper!

Here's the article for your enjoyment:  http://aol.it/1ubj9QZ

Keep on writing!

Ads in the Miami Herald will run 7-10 days prior to the show. The room block is filling up, but as of today I still have rooms. BUT the rate is only good for a limited time, so please book your rooms now to get the pen show rate. Dealers will be listed in the coming weeks, and if you still have not decided to attend, please do consider this show. I have dealers coming from all across the USA, as well as Mexico,Russia and South America giving the Miami Pen show a truly international prominance, which in turn will bring more attention to the show and more folks coming through the doors.

Also, we must recognize the main sponsor of the show, Yafa Pen Company, distributor and manufacturer of great brands like Delta, Stipula, Conklin, and Monteverde.  Yafa Brands - where a world of luxury and innovation become one!

Sherpa Pen For Sharpies By Sherpa

Written by Bert Oser

Sherpa Pen For Sharpies By Sherpa           (Try saying that 3 times fast!)

Talk about an ugly pen!  It pains me to even write that because I love pens - really, almost all of them no matter the brand, price, or style.  But a Sharpie has a colorless grey body with more advertising on it than a pharmaceutical promo pen.  Even the Sharpie cap (which barely snaps onto the body) has the worst clip of any pen on the planet - so bad that it probably can't hold it's own weight in a shirt pocket.  Ah, you may say then: "Why do so many people use them"?  Their uses are just endless: cooks, teachers, cops, golfers, and just about every athlete uses one to sign autographs.  How do movie stars and the musical greats carry such an ugly pen around while wearing 10 or 100's of thousands of dollars worth of clothes and jewlery?  Well, they buy a Sherpa.  This converts the unsightly to the unique. The Sherpa is a cover or holder for the Sharpie.  Simply unscrew the front section of the pen and drop the Sharpie inside. Trash that worthless cap and use the cap with the Sherpa and you've got yourself one nice pen.  The Sherpa cover also takes Uniball and many other inexpensive pens.  We have in stock most of the models offered and there are always more coming.  I've listed some closeouts in our Specials section, so don't forget to check them out!
