Bruce Lee was such an influential person throughout his lifetime. Whether you’re a fan of martial arts movies or not, I hope you agree that Lee is one of the most influential martial artists of all time. Some even call him a 20th century pop culture icon. He died at the young age of 32, and accomplished more in his years than many do in an entire lifetime. Not only did Bruce Lee act in dozens of films (starting as a baby), but he also directed some of them. In addition, Lee was a martial artist, martial arts instructor, and a philosopher. The new Blackwing Volume 651 Bruce Lee Pencils embody all aspects of his life in their great new limited edition.

First of all, the Blackwing Volume 651 Bruce Lee Pencils are in the standard box of 12. As for the technical aspects of these pencils, they start with a yellow eraser. The ferrule is a silver color. Simplistic, the white imprint merely says “Blackwing * 651”.

Secondly, I’m not a big fan of the extra firm graphite that Blackwing has been using on many of their limited edition Volumes lately. Don’t get me wrong – it’s not horrible. Normally extra firm graphite creates a lighter stroke, and is more brittle than softer graphite. Luckily overall, Blackwing’s extra firm graphite isn’t as light or as brittle as it is with other brands. Therefore it’s not bad. However, when I compared it to Blackwing’s soft graphite, it literally pales in comparison. Obviously, this is all subjective to my preference.

Finally, as a philosopher, Bruce Lee kept many pocketbooks with dance routines, self-affirmations, and deep life-shaping wisdoms. These Blackwing Volume 651 Bruce Lee Pencils feature a simple, streamlined, and direct design based on Lee’s philosophies (and that of Jeet Kune Do – the martial arts style he founded). Adorned with a black and yellow striped finish, these are a great tribute. Even the Volumes number, 651, is derived from 651 S. Weller Street in Seattle, WA. This is where Bruce Lee opened his first formal school.
