Blackwing Volume 746 Golden Gate Bridge Pencils

As you may or may not know, I’m a huge fan of all writing instruments – including pencils of all types. Over the last decade-ish, I’ve loved the new releases from Blackwing. Yes, I even got their recent lesser known small-batch release of the regular 602 grey Blackwings just because it has the original imprint. Imagine my excitement around their newest limited edition: the Blackwing Volume 746 Golden Gate Bridge Pencils.
First of all, the Blackwing Volume 746 Golden Gate Bridge Pencils is a box of twelve wood pencils. Above all, the Blackwing 746 is a tribute to the Golden Gate Bridge and other engineering wonders of the modern world. Unfortunately, each pencil features Blackwing’s firm graphite core. I only say “unfortunately” because I’m more of a fan of softer graphite cores. However, to be fair, Blackwing’s firm graphite is still softer compared to most of the harder graphites. In addition, it is finished with a special multi-layered technique to bring out the iconic International Orange color of San Francisco’s world-famous marvel.
In the summer of 1929, the newly- formed Golden Gate Bridge and Highway District hired Joseph B. Strauss to complete a task that many said was impossible. The task was to build a bridge across the churning waters of the Golden Gate Strait. He and his team of engineers, designers, and planners used pencil and paper to develop the sketches, design drafts, and finished plans that would become the Golden Gate Bridge.
