Faber Castell Hexo Pen Collection

Faber Castell Hexo Pen Collection

So many times customers come into the shop and ask “What’s a great everyday writer?” or “What pen do you recommend that’s a ‘workhorse’ of a pen?” There are a few go-to brands that have withstood the test of time. The new Faber Castell Hexo pen collection is added to that list now. Faber Castell has a great range of writing instruments. From art supplies and colored pencils, to a more casual writing instrument that has fun designs and colors, they make a great product. Then there’s the Graf von Faber Castell line for the more discerning writer. Therefore it is no surprise to find a winner with the Faber Castell Hexo pen collection.

The Hexo comes in three colors: black, silver, and rose. Personally, I like the rose color best. It contrasts nicely with the black clip (and mechanism and nose cone on the ballpoint). Though there’s something to be said for the stealth black with a matching black clip. The silver color matches through and through from the cap, barrel, and clip (and mechanism and nose cone on the ballpoint). Very nice finishes on the anodized aluminum create a classy look.

Of course I also like how the Hexo has a more contemporary design. It’s the hexagonal shape of the cap and barrel that I really think contributes to this aesthetic. Not to mention the streamlined, flatter, wider shape of the spring-loaded clip. It’s got a sturdy feel that will keep your pen attached to your shirt pocket or pen case loop without snagging or stretching out the material. On the fountain pen and rollerball, the cap has a snug fitting clutch which allows the pen to sit securely in either the closed or open position. Also, definitely worth mentioning is the satisfying final twist of the two sections closing together when you re-attach the front grip section to the barrel on both the fountain pen and rollerball.

The fountain pen is an incredible writer. The nib and feed allow the ink to flow perfectly, producing a smooth, consistent line. I love how the grip section is translucent, allowing you to see the ink flow to the nib. It comes with an international sized cartridge and a spacer (empty cartridge), yet it also takes a standard international size converter as well (the Schmidt K5 works great).

The rollerball is great as well. When you want that “liquidy” ink of the fountain pen, but tend to press down really hard as you write, this is a great alternative. This takes a standard Schmidt 888 or 5888 rollerball refill, which gives you plenty of color and point size options.

I’m really happy with the ballpoint. I like the overall size, shape, and feel in the hand. It has a great twist-action retraction mechanism. You can really feel its quality as it produces a satisfying “click” each time you enable the ballpoint refill to extend or close. It comes with a wonderfully smooth, thick broad black ballpoint refill. Since it takes a Parker style refill, you have tons of options using the Monteverde ballpoint and/or gel refills.

Overall, the Faber Castell Hexo pen collection in all modes of writing really gives its competition of similar styles a run for their money. We are so excited about this pen that we are doing a giveaway for one fountain pen, one rollerball, and one ballpoint. Winners are selected at random.
