Kaweco Special Edition Skyline Sport Lavender Fountain Pen
Kaweco pens have a huge following. I love the way this brand has grown exponentially in popularity over the years. Even if you’re not a fan of their smaller, pocket/purse-sized Sport, they have a more commonly sized pen in the Dia2 and Student models. I’m not including the Supra in this comparison because it’s not a traditionally shaped pen. The Sport is one of my favorites because of how customizable it is, along with how small it is. You can see how much I like it in my last review of the Kaweco Al-Sport Golden Espresso Fountain Pen here. The Kaweco Sport packs a wallop for such a portable pen. The latest from them is the Kaweco Special Edition Skyline Sport Lavender Fountain Pen.
First of all, the customization occurs when choosing between a clip or no clip, which nib size, and whether to use cartridge or converter. Not to mention the overall color scheme of the pen. Do you match the clip color or contrast it? Do you match the ink color or contrast it? The clips are sold separately, so you can choose which color scheme to start with. Check out the different clip options here. Personally, I’d go with the chrome clip for this one.
As for the nib size, you can choose between: extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and double broad. I’m torn between the fine and the double broad. On the one hand, this fine point nib will be great for taking notes and using with everyday writing. However on the other hand, the double broad would produce an incredible amount of color variation with each stroke, and would look great on the paper!
Importantly, since the Kaweco Special Edition Skyline Sport Lavender Fountain Pen has a calming lighter purple hue to its resin, I’d recommend matching it with Monteverde’s Purple Mist bottled ink. If you use the newer Kaweco Slide Converter, you get a lot more ink usage. Each Kaweco writes incredibly well, and I love the balance in my hand (I rarely post the cap). It’s definitely not a heavy pen, and therefore your hand won’t tire with use. Hopefully Kaweco keeps the great ideas coming for wonderful colors in their future Special Edition pens like they did with this one.
