Laban Rosa Pen Collection

Laban Rosa Pen Collection

We tend to look toward the newest pens. It’s always interesting to find unique and innovative ones. Yet sometimes it’s just as good to find pens with a traditional look and feel. The Laban Rosa Pen Collection is exactly that – a traditional looking pen with great value. Even with a traditional shape and design, what makes the Laban Rosa Pen Collection special is its resin. As soon as I saw these pens, my first thought was how they look like Omas’ resin and celluloid.

First of all, here’s what I mean by “looking like Omas’ resin/celluloid”. It all starts with the Greek Key around the cap ring. There are four colors available in the Rosa series: Burgundy, Blue Marble, Spring, and Summer. Despite how much I love all four colors, I definitely take issue with the last two names. Those names, Spring and Summer, do not match the corresponding colors. They also seem out of place among the other two names, Burgundy and Blue Marble. However, all four colors remind me of the deep marbled patterns of the long-gone Omas pens.

Secondly, the Rosa is available in fountain pen and rollerball. I still wish Laban made more ballpoint pens – especially in this collection. The fountain pen and rollerball both have mid-to-larger size bodies, boasting a capped length of 143mm. In terms of girth, these pens feel nice and thick in the hand, measuring at a max diameter of 12.4mm. With its larger size, I like how substantial they feel. There’s a decent amount of heft (31 grams) without tiring out your hand. Another feature I like is the clip’s length. It’s a large clip, going almost the entire length of the cap.

Finally, the fountain pen uses an international size cartridge and converter filling system. It’s really cool to have the converter labeled with Laban’s name. However, I recommend replacing it with the Schmidt K5 converter. The nib is a smooth, high quality steel nib. It’s available in: extra fine, fine, medium, and broad. The rollerball uses Schmidt 888 or 5888 rollerball refills.
