Pineider Alchemist Pen Collection

Pineider Alchemist Pen Collection

Who among us doesn’t enjoy unique materials in their pens? There’s nothing wrong with pens made with resin or metal, of course. But when you have precious materials that are inside your writing instrument, that’s extra special. You may be familiar with the Visconti Homo Sapiens as the first pen collection to introduce using a mixture of hardened basaltic lava and resin. Since then, there have been a few other pens made with some variation of this concept. Continuing innovation with his brilliant ideas, Dante del Vecchio has done it again with the new Pineider Alchemist Pen Collection. As you may recall, I’m a huge fan of lava-based pens.

First of all, the durability of the Pineider Alchemist Pen Collection is incredible. Since these pens are made of a combination of Zeolite (more than 40%) and resin, it makes your Alchemist pen extremely resistant to impact. Zeolite is a mineral of volcanic origin, millions of years old, from when lava combined with seawater. This chemical combination still occurs to this day with every volcanic eruption.

Secondly, these pens are between the size and shape of the Pineider Avatar and the Grande Belleza. To me this means it’s a medium size and heft. It’s perfect for comfort and balance. Zeolite gives your Alchemist a velvety tactile sensation, which adds to the gripping properties. I’d recommend filling the fountain pen with Monteverde’s Jungle Zebra Blue ink to match the matte blue color of these pens.

Available as a fountain pen, rollerball, and ballpoint, you have plenty of options. What I love about the fountain pen is Pineider’s 14k gold Iperflex nib. That nib writes like a dream. Choose from: extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and stub. That version of the fountain pen has a piston filling system. Interestingly enough, the steel nib fountain pen only has extra fine, fine, and medium options. It uses an international size cartridge/converter filling system.

Finally, the fountain pen and rollerball use Pineider’s magnetic cap closure system. The rollerball is refillable with Schmidt 888 or 5888 rollerball refills. Twisting the ballpoint is easy with the smooth twist-action retraction mechanism. Enjoy your favorite Monteverde Parker ballpoint or gel refills in this ballpoint pen.
