Pineider Avatar UR Black Demo Pens
First and foremost, happy, healthy Lunar New Year to those who celebrate! We hope it’s a special and meaningful day of celebration for you all. You may be wondering why this blog review isn’t about an Asian pen in honor of the holiday. This review is by request from a customer who wanted more reviews about smaller and thinner pens. I’m excited about the newer Pineider Avatar UR Black Demo Pens. As you can see from my previous review of the Pineider Avatar UR Deluxe Pen Collection (here), I’m a fan of the Avatar UR model.
First, I feel compelled to explain the name of the Pineider Avatar UR Black Demo Pens more in-depth. The initials “U.R.” stands for unbreakable resin. These pens are exactly that – virtually unbreakable. Black refers to the shiny black trim adorning the pen. As we’re familiar with Demonstrators, these are clear or translucent with color in the resin.
Secondly, the size and shape of these pens are thinner. I’d compare them to the Cross Townsend Collection. These Pineider pens are much more lightweight. They’re comfortable in the hand, and very nicely balanced. I like pens of all shapes and sizes, so if you already know you like a smaller pen, then this is the one for you. Importantly, this Avatar UR collection is available in fountain pen, rollerball, and ballpoint.
Noteworthy is how the fountain pen uses a smooth, high quality steel nib. The nib is coated black to match the trim. Unfortunately, it’s only available in extra fine, fine, and medium. I would’ve liked to see more nib size options. Also, it fills via international cartridge or converter. For attention to detail, Pineider made sure the converter matches the black trim where there is metal. It also shows an ink level gauge, which makes it easier to estimate when you need to refill. The fountain pen and rollerball have a magnetic cap. Refilling the rollerball is easy with Schmidt 888 or 5888 rollerball refills. Also, the ballpoint employs a smooth twist-action retraction, and refills with your favorite Monteverde Parker Style ballpoint or gel refills.
Finally, there are six beautiful colors to choose from. Sky Blue is actually a darker blue, yet is still translucent. Amber is a darker yellow with a translucent barrel. Clear is exactly that – all clear throughout the pen. Red Wine is a lovely darker red, and is also translucent. Both the Matte Black and the Glossy Black are actually not demonstrators at all. I love this collection, and hope you do as well.
