Private Reserve Infinity Ink
When you’re in between buying pens, what are some smaller purchases you make? Perhaps pen accessories are in store for tiding you over until the next pen comes along? I know that I enjoy picking up new and fun inks for my fountain pens. Even if you don’t consider bottled ink as an “accessory”, it’s always exciting to see new ink colors and concepts being introduced to the market. So, imagine how incredible and groundbreaking it was to see the new Private Reserve Infinity Ink released. The concept alone is fantastic: no matter how long you leave the cap off of your fountain pen, the ink will always be ready to write.
First of all, the Private Reserve Infinity Ink is available in six colors: Infinity Green, Infinity Purple, Infinity Blue, Infinity Turquoise, Infinity Black, and Infinity Red. You might imagine that with green being my favorite color in everyday life that the Infinity Green ink would be my favorite one. Yet, after creating these swatches and letting them dry for several hours, I actually prefer the Infinity Purple and the Infinity Blue the most. Honestly, I wish the green was a little darker. The others colors are rather wonderful, and exactly how I’d imagined they should be.
Secondly, with how recently this ink was released, it’s too soon to see if there’s any lasting effect after leaving it in a wide variety of fountain pen brands (and testing it in different filling systems and with different nibs and feeds). Yet, I’ve left the Infinity Green ink in my Pineider Forged Carbon with an extra fine nib (still one of my current favorite writers) for over a week with testing the cap off time. I’m happy to report that it instantly writes without issue. And that pen has a piston filling system (just in case that makes a difference for this review).
Importantly, Yair Greenberg created a video to showcase how amazing this ink is. As you can see, Yair explains how he spent many years developing this formula and perfecting it for everyday use. In addition to the Infinity Ink formula, Private Reserve also includes the E.C.O. (Extended Cap Off) formula in this ink. You get so much value in this 60mL bottle of ink.
Finally, one of my immediate concerns was: will an ink that’s supposed to remain ready to write at a moment’s notice (even after the cap was left off of the fountain pen) be able to dry well on paper? What happens after the usefulness of its wetness is gone? How long will it take to dry on the paper? Will it smear? I am so happy to report that after testing on the glossier Rhodia paper as well as on the more porous Pineider Hollywood Journal, it dried much quicker than I expected and didn’t smear at all. And that’s including the globs of ink that I laid down with a q-tip for the swatches. Incredible. With an ink that proves so useful and truly lives up to the hype, I can’t wait for Private Reserve to create more Infinity Ink color options.
