First of all, the TWSBI Diamond 580ALR Black Fountain Pen has an aluminum machined grip, connector, and piston rod. The 580ALR has a subtle matte finish, and circular engravings on the grip section and cap. The black trim is easily visible on the grip section, cap rings, and piston mechanism.
Secondly, the idea behind the TWSBI Diamond 530, 540, and 580 was to go back to basics and capture the simplicity and elegance of traditional writing instruments. Notably, in recent years, the development and modernization of writing instruments has resulted in traditional writing instruments, such as fountain pens, falling into obscurity. It was TWSBI’s goal to bring the past back to life by creating a traditional fountain pen that even modern day society can appreciate.

Finally, the Diamond 580ALR comes with a benchmark ink-filling mechanism and has all detachable parts. TWSBI felt that it was important to allow the user to disassemble and reassemble the pen and completely experience the traditional aspects of owning and using a fountain pen. Choose your nib size: extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and stub 1.1. It’s a smooth-writing steel nib, no matter which point size you choose. I recommend filling it with Monteverde’s Iced Cookie Ink to contrast the matte black trim.
