Visconti Homo Sapiens Blue Lagoon

Visconti Homo Sapiens Blue Lagoon

When Visconti first came out with the Homo Sapiens, I was among the first in line to get the set. Such an innovative, ground-breaking model of pen changed Visconti’s mid-range line of pens forever. The Homo Sapiens is such a comfortable pen to hold. It feels great in the hand, and writes like a dream. Whether you get the fountain pen, rollerball, ballpoint, or mechanical pencil, it’s comfortable and functional. It’s definitely a performance pen. Stemming from the original Homo Sapiens comes many great, fun variations and limited editions. One of the latest limited editions is the Visconti Homo Sapiens Blue Lagoon collection.

Visconti Homo Sapiens Blue Lagoon

Available in both fountain pen and rollerball, this is a limited edition of 888 pieces. The Blue Lagoon is packed with features that makes it truly impressive and stand out. First, it’s a partial demonstrator pen. The cap is solid colors with the bluish/greenish swirls of the “lagoon”. Yet the barrel’s matching swirls are not solid. I like how this means you can still see the inner mechanics of your pen, along with all the ink sloshing around inside. And the uniqueness of how it’s crafted means that no two will have the same swirls.

Inside the barrel sits a massive double reservoir for your ink. That’s a max-capacity for continuous writing pleasure. I love the one-handed use of the vacuum filling mechanism. That sweet, satisfying click of the vacuum knob closing as the ink rushes into the pen is unmistakable. Not to mention how easy the double reservoir makes it to store ink in the main chamber for safety while traveling.

The Sterling silver trim (clip, rings, etc.) accent this pen brilliantly, matching the internal mechanisms as well. The 18k nib is also plated to match the accents. As for the nib, it’s available in fine, medium, and broad. Personally, I’d choose the broad nib for this Visconti Homo Sapiens Blue Lagoon. I’m imagining all the awesome shading and sheening I’d get from more ink coming out of the pen at once.

Last but not least is Visconti’s “My Pen System”. I like that this pen’s cap has the magnetic medallion that allows you to switch out the Visconti logo for something more personalized if you prefer. It’s a neat way to accessorize your pen.
