Esterbrook Estie Sea Glass Pen Collection

Esterbrook is back at it again with their latest Estie – the Esterbrook Estie Sea Glass Pen Collection. I’m really enthusiastic about this color scheme! After such great success with their limited release, the Estie Aqua Special Edition (see my review here), the Sea Glass keeps in with the water theme. Unlike the Aqua, the Esterbrook Estie Sea Glass Pen Collection is part of their core line of Estie pens. Esterbrook’s inspiration is finding Sea Glass along the beaches of New Jersey and New York. This is right near Esterbrook’s birthplace.
First of all, I love all the customization options with these new Estie pens. Notably, all modes of writing are available with the option of gold trim or palladium trim. The fountain pen is available as an oversized version or a standard size version. Equipped with a high quality, smooth writing steel JoWo nib, you can choose from: extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and stub 1.1. There are other options, such as using the MV (Modern to Vintage) Nib Adapter (sold separately) to enable use of most vintage Esterbrook nibs in your Estie.
Secondly, the fountain pen and rollerball are equipped with a cushion cap closure system to allow softer and smoother twist-action as you open and close your pen. In functional terms, this also means your ink stays wet in your pen longer. Speaking of ink, I’d recommend using Monteverde’s California Teal to match the Esterbrook Estie Sea Glass fountain pens. That ink even has some sheen, which matches the theme of glistening Sea Glass. Since you can fill these fountain pens via a cartridge/converter filling system, you can use both Monteverde’s bottle and cartridge to use your preferred method.
Importantly, the rollerball is a great writer with the ability to refill using Schmidt 888 or 5888 rollerball refills. This means you can still choose a few different colors of ink and point size. Yet, even though the main focus seems to be their fountain pens, the hidden gem is the Sea Glass ballpoint. As a wonderfully sized, tapered pen, all Esterbrook Estie ballpoints make for excellent everyday use as well as a great gift. It employs smooth twist-action retraction along with the ability to refill with Monteverde’s Parker Style ballpoint or gel refills.
