Aurora Optima 365 Lilac Fountain Pen
One of the many great things I love to see in the pen industry is when a collection endures the test of time. When a pen model exists for so long that there are many variations of its colors and themes, it is truly exciting. The Aurora Optima is one such model. In case you weren’t aware, Aurora periodically releases limited editions of these Auroloide Optimas. Their increase in popularity has only made these limited editions more sought after to add to your pen collection. The latest is the Aurora Optima 365 Lilac Fountain Pen.
First, here’s a little background. With Aurora’s rich history, the Optima was first introduced in 1938. The current “standard” colors are black with gold trim or chrome trim options. Notably, the Riflessi and Silver variants offer a black barrel with Sterling Silver caps or all Sterling Silver options. Even more exciting are the models made with Auroloide (celluloid). These show a rich depth of color embedded throughout the pen’s cap and barrel. You can enjoy their everyday options of Blue, Burgundy, Emerald, Nero Perla, and Rossa.
In addition to the aforementioned pens, Aurora even made an Optima Mini, which is made in a burgundy Auroloide. As if that wasn’t enough, special editions include the O’ Sole Mio (an orange and black cap), the Orange, and the Viola. Another limited edition Optima is the Caleidoscopio. Aurora makes 860 fountain pens, and 380 ballpoints.
Importantly, Aurora’s 365 series is a limited edition of only 365 pieces produced. Talk about limited! Similarly, in leap years Aurora makes 366 pens. Also, the Optima 365 is only produced as a fountain pen, unlike the Caleidoscopio. From the Coral Red, and the Gialla, we now have the Aurora Optima 365 Lilac Fountain Pen.
Finally, as you might imagine, this fountain pen is colored in a beautiful pale and soft violet shade that looks perfect in the marbled Auroloide material. Its nib is made of 18k gold, plated with rhodium, and featuring an ebonite feed. Aurora’s nibs are proudly made in-house, and of the highest quality. When it comes to nib size options, you can choose from a wide variety of: extra fine, fine, medium, broad, double broad, stub, and italic. I think Monteverde’s Purple Reign ink would look great flowing from this piston-filling fountain pen. Both the rhodium plated nib and the chrome trim match the softer Lilac tones wonderfully.
