Conklin All American Golden Walnut

Conklin is releasing some amazing limited editions lately. Last time I wrote about Conklin was for the Conklin All American Courage limited edition (see my review here). I love how creative and affordable these limited editions are in general. The newest release from Conklin is another limited edition. The Conklin All American Golden Walnut collection is limited to 1898 pieces. Usually the limited editions are only made in a fountain pen, so this is doubly excellent because it’s also offered in a rollerball. This is also the first All American to be offered in a rollerball at all. Whether you choose the rose gold or the gunmetal accents, you can’t go wrong.

I’m so excited about this collection for several reasons. First is how this is a quality made wooden pen. Those are hard to come by (unless it’s a Faber Castell wooden pen or pencil). I’m usually afraid of it cracking or staining after a while, but not with this pen! The Conklin All American Golden Walnut has a very thick wood barrel, which means it won’t crack or split easily. It’s made of a high-grade walnut that originates from the forests of Missouri. Also, since the grip section is longer, you shouldn’t be able to get bottled ink anywhere near the wood when filling it. Even better should you choose to fill it with a standard international ink cartridge.

Regardless of your preference (fountain pen or rollerball), they both have a great amount of heft to them. I love a pen that feels a little heavier than average. It feels like I’m holding a more substantial pen that won’t break easily in my hand. Sometimes when I’m writing out in rapid-fire, I tend to have a tighter grip than usual. It’s reassuring knowing the Conklin All American Golden Walnut can definitely keep up with my needs.

The rollerball uses your standard Schmidt 888 or 5888 rollerball refills. They’re easy to switch out quickly in your pen. I think it’s a great alternative when you can’t use your fountain pen for something. At least this way you can still get that smooth, liquidy writing experience. The fountain pen has the usual nib options of extra fine, fine, medium, broad, stub, and omniflex with the JoWo nib. Personally, I enjoy using the stub nib most often from them.
