Esterbrook Estie Ballpoint Pen Collection
Often times a fantastic ballpoint pen is underrated. As we see new fountain pens coming out with great designs and even limited in production, it’s easy to overlook ballpoint pens that are great for everyday use. Esterbrook wowed us in the pen community with their debut pen collection for resurrecting the brand – the Estie. The Estie collection was comprised of a regular size fountain pen and rollerball. This was a powerhouse of a collection to start with, and they only made it better with introducing the Oversize fountain pen. After such incredible success with several traditional and colorful finishes, I’m excited to introduce the Esterbrook Estie Ballpoint Pen Collection.
First of all, what makes the Esterbrook Estie Ballpoint Pen Collection so special is a combination of their size, shape, colors available, functionality, price point, and “gift-ability”. Importantly, when I hold a ballpoint for the first time, I need to feel a substantial pen in my hand. It’s not so massive as to be uncomfortable after a while, and yet also not so skinny or small to really have to grip tighter as I’m writing. This is a longer, torpedo shaped ballpoint pen that tapers perfectly toward the grip section.
Furthermore, the Estie ballpoint is available in four colorful finishes. Each finish has the option of either gold plated trim or palladium plated trim. Choose from: Ebony, Cobalt, Tortoise, and Honeycomb (my favorite). The Ebony and Cobalt show great depth and are a little more traditional. The Tortoise and Honeycomb are a little more vibrant and have some “personality” to it. They all have a brilliantly shiny luster that reflects light beautifully.
After that, continuing in terms of functionality, I love a solid, smooth twist-action retraction ballpoint mechanism. These Estie ballpoints are so easy to activate and retract with a quick one-handed flick of the hand. It’s oddly satisfying to feel the mechanism lock into place securely. In addition, I also love it when pens are able to use Monteverde Parker Style ballpoint or gel refills. This is another aspect of the functionality that I appreciate. These refills are available in a wide variety of colors and point sizes, which translates to customization for my everyday writing needs.
Finally, getting so much value packed in an everyday writer like this makes it a great gift – either for yourself or for someone else. It’s great for every occasion, as well as adding to your pen collection.
