Field Notes Snowy Evening 2020
First of all, Merry Christmas!! Just in time for Christmas and the Winter/Holiday season in general is the Field Notes Snowy Evening 2020 Limited Edition 3 Pack. Each one of the three included books has a unique snowflake design on the cover. This means there are 99,999 unique covers, with only 33,333 packs produced. I love the Field Notes paper in general, and they create incredible themes for their limited editions every quarter. The amount of thought and detail that goes into each L.E. is amazing.
Noteworthy is how the cover of the Field Notes Snowy Evening 2020 L.E. gives the exact vibe of its namesake. Just looking at the darker blue cover with the special microscopic view of a snowflake on top makes you feel all warm and fuzzy – much like the way a nice, relaxed snowy evening would. Even before opening mine, I’m inspired to log all the holiday beverages I will consume. Believe it or not, there are many ways to prepare a steaming cup of hot cocoa (both virgin and spiked), and I’ll sip on those while watching Christmas movies. Christmas movie titles are another fun list to make inside my Snowy Evening memo book.
Secondly, the size is perfect for taking along to all your holiday events. At the portable pocket size of 3.5” x 5.5”, you’re ready to jot down quick notes at a moment’s notice. Not to mention how the paper itself is very fountain pen friendly, along with all other modes of writing. I’ve enjoyed testing different nib sizes along with rollerball, ballpoint, and pencil to see how they all fare. I’m happy to report that all modes of writing instruments were successful without bleeding, feathering, shading, etc.
I only wish there were more pages per book in their quarterly limited editions. They have 48 pages in each book, which I admit is plenty, but I love the Snowy Evening so much that it’d be great to have more pages to extend the life of the book. Speaking of the pages, they all have rounded corners. And in the Field Notes description, they call the page pattern a “flake grid pattern”. I thought (and secretly hoped) that meant they printed tiny snowflakes as a special version of the typical dot grid pattern. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The flake grid is a light blue/gray dot grid pattern.
Lastly, the exterior has a few important details worth mentioning. The staples that bind each book are glossed with white paint. And the individual snowflake number (i.e. 80,165 of 99,999) is denoted at the bottom of the outer front cover.
