Graf von Faber-Castell 260th Anniversary Perfect Pencil
Share
Since I just recently did a blog about the National Day of Pencils which occurs on March 30th, I feel it’s appropriate to share my take on a very special pencil with you. You could even say it’s perfect! I briefly described the Graf von Faber-Castell Perfect Pencil in that aforementioned blog, as you can see here. Graf von Faber-Castell previously released the Perfect Pencil in two sizes (regular and Magnum), in a few different finishes (Platinum Plated, Black PVD Coated, Brown, and Rose Gold), and with several pencil color options. In celebration of their 260th anniversary, they released the Graf von Faber-Castell 260th Anniversary Perfect Pencil. It’s everything I could’ve hoped for in such a special limited edition Perfect Pencil from them.
First of all, this Graf von Faber-Castell 260th Anniversary Perfect Pencil uses the regular size pencil refills, and not the Magnum size. I like how this means the pencils can be replaced with so many different color options. It comes with a fluted black pencil (with a hardness of B graphite), but you can choose from Black, Brown, Grey, Electric Pink, Gulf Blue, India Red, Olive Green, Turquoise, Violet Blue, Viper Green, and Burned Orange here.
Importantly, I like the hardness that Graf von Faber-Castell chose for the graphite. Having a “B” hardness is softer than your average graphite (HB is middle of the road), and it produces a darker mark on your paper. A softer graphite means it’s also smoother to write with. Personally, I don’t like the harder (or H, 2H, 3H, etc.) graphite because it’s more brittle, produces a lighter line, and tends to feel more scratchy.
Noteworthy is how this Perfect Pencil retains all the flagship characteristics of the “everyday” model, while adding some glamor. Like its “siblings”, this limited edition of only 750 pieces utilizes the cap as a pencil extender with a built-in sharpener. It’s so useful to extend the pencil as it shortens with use, thus prolonging the life of each pencil refill. Have you ever been out and about, writing as usual with your pencil, only to find your sharpener is nowhere in sight? Well, this is no longer an issue with your Perfect Pencil. Even the eraser is replaceable with its metal attachment that’s easy to unscrew and replace.
One of the details that sets this pencil apart is the PVD coating made of titanium in anthracite. Next up is the beautiful faceted jade stone embedded in the top of the cap. Not that I’m biased toward this pencil because of a green jewel, of course. Last but not least is the high-quality wooden gift box this comes in, complete with certificate.
