Earlier this week I shared the Retro 51 Cleopatra pen. What does that pen and the new Graf von Faber-Castell Pen of the Year have in common? They’re both Egyptian themed. However, that’s where the comparison must end because these two pens are nothing alike. The Graf von Faber-Castell Pen of the Year 2023 Ancient Egypt is an annual limited edition that experiments with materials and techniques for decorating the barrel. Each design is produced for one year only and each pen is unique. Email bert@bertramsinkwell.com for special pricing and to reserve yours. This is a pre-order for October’s release.
First of all, the Graf von Faber-Castell Pen of the Year 2023 Ancient Egypt is inspired by ancient Egypt as the name suggests. Notably, it was a civilized culture with an impressive 3,000-year-old history that fascinates people with its many unsolved mysteries. There’s a long tapestry of culture associated with Ancient Egypt. It shows up in music, books, tv, movies, and so much more.
Secondly, decorative hieroglyphs of 12 myth-enshrouded deities from ancient Egypt adorn the barrel. In addition, this includes representations of Ra, the sun god, Anubis, the god of the afterlife, and the sacred scarab beetle. Therefore, these symbols not only add visual appeal but also carry profound cultural significance, serving as a bridge between the past and the present. Moreover, the reconstructed blue lapis lazuli inlaid in the end piece shines bright and turns each pen into a unique piece. Importantly, this is a limited edition of 375 fountain pens and 125 rollerball pens. Included in the package is a lapis lazuli ink bottle.
Finally, the fountain pen is equipped with the magnificent Graf von Faber-Castell 18k gold nib. I love the way their nibs write, and this is no exception. In other words, all you have to do is choose from: fine, medium, or broad. Similarly, both the fountain pen and rollerball are equipped with fine threads for smoothly securing your cap to the barrel.
