Kaweco AL Sport Vibrant Violet Fountain Pen

After months of anxiously awaiting the new Kaweco AL Sport Vibrant Violet Fountain Pen, it is finally here! As we know, Kaweco limited edition fountain pens are highly sought after. The last AL Sport (Kaweco’s Golden Espresso), another U.S. exclusive, was a huge hit at the end of 2020. Now, we get to enjoy another U.S. exclusive – the first AL Sport in 2021. The Kaweco AL Sport Vibrant Violet Fountain Pen is limited in production, but yet un-numbered. I’m excited to snag a few right away, but don’t worry – I’ll leave plenty for you to get as well!
With the clip and converter coming separately from the pen, it’s a tough decision as to which color clip to buy. Which do you think will match best? The choices in the deluxe clip are: chrome, black, bronze, and gold. I think the gold or bronze color clip matches best with the gold color/plated steel nib. As for the nib, you have the usual choices of: extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and double broad.
True to its name, the Kaweco AL Sport Vibrant Violet Fountain Pen is a powerful purple – just like an amethyst or tanzanite gemstone. And since the AL Sport is made of anodized aluminum, the violet color takes on a very complimentary tone. I feel like this just wouldn’t have shown up as nicely in a resin. Importantly, the aluminum body gives this pen a very substantial feel without being too heavy. It’s so comfortable in the hand as is the case with Kaweco’s other AL Sport and AC Sport (carbon fiber with aluminum) finishes.
Since the Kaweco slide converter is optimal for my use, I’m planning on filling mine with the Monteverde Purple Reign bottled ink. The colors match so nicely! Speaking of matching, the imprint saying “Kaweco Collection” is back-filled with a gold tone to match the nib and gold plated coin on the cap with “Kaweco” engraved in it. While my preference is to use their slide converter, the option of using an international size cartridge is also available.
