Kaweco Original Pen Collection
You may be wondering why it’s been a while since I’ve done a blog review. I’ve been waiting a long time to coincide the next blog review with announcing the upgraded Bertram’s Inkwell website to come. This is something we’ve been working on behind the scenes for quite some time. And now that there are only a few weeks left before the website’s big launch, I’m also excited to share a pen collection that I’ve been eagerly awaiting (for what feels like forever) its arrival: the Kaweco Original Pen Collection.
First of all, when they announced the Kaweco Original Pen Collection earlier this year, I knew it was going to be huge. Not only would it be huge in terms of how much everyone will love these pens, but also in terms of physical size. These are full-size pens (as opposed to the pocket-size Kaweco Sport). With two fountain pen size choices (the 250 and the 060), you have even more options. The 250 version weighs a whopping 26g, and boasts an open length of 12.5cm, and a closed length of 5”. The 060 weighs 23g, and has a surprisingly similar open length of 12cm, and the same closed length as the 250. Not to be outdone, the ballpoint weighs 31g, and is 13.2cm long.
Notably, the fountain pens don’t come with converters. I was a little disappointed by that. However, on a positive note, both fountain pens use standard international size converters (and cartridges). So you don’t need the smaller squeeze or slide converters for these Kawecos. Comparing the two fountain pens, I’m drawn more to the 250 because of the smaller grip section, and the larger upgraded premium steel nib. Don’t get me wrong – I still like the 060 as a slightly smaller, slightly thinner option. Choose from: extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and double broad nib sizes.
Next up is the ballpoint. Activating the smooth twist-action retraction mechanism on top of the pen couldn’t be easier with one-handed use. Not to mention using our favorite Monteverde Parker Style ballpoint or gel refills is effortless by unscrewing the nose cone.
Finally, the overall octagonal shape adds Kaweco’s style to a design based on writing instruments from the late 1950’s. Also, the aluminum cap and barrel feels substantial. The anodized black finish is also scratch-resistant for maximized durability. I feel like all three pens are perfectly balanced and really comfortable in the hand.
