Kaweco Student 70's Soul Fountain Pen

Originating in 1883, Kaweco is one of the older pen companies around. They’ve grown in popularity among younger pen enthusiasts recently due to the Kaweco Sport Series being compact, trendy, and inexpensive. But saving that for another time, here is my review of the Kaweco Student 70’s Soul Fountain Pen for you.

I absolutely love the orange color cap on this pen! The ivory color barrel is a nice contrast too. I really enjoyed testing out this pen while drinking a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte, because I felt like they matched!

The brass grip section is especially nice to hold in my hand! This pen is nicely weighted – whether you post the cap or not. Personally I never post the cap when writing. Speaking of caps – this one twists on, rather than having a friction-fit cap clutch. The threads are secure, yet you don’t have to exert effort to unscrew the cap.

I used Kaweco’s fine point steel nib to test out the pen, and I like how this fine point keeps up with my fast writing. They made it in extra fine, fine, medium, and broad. I feel like any of these options are great choices (that’s because I personally will use all nib sizes). Their nibs are known for writing well overall, and being very reliable.

The Kaweco Student 70’s Soul Fountain Pen is a great pen for everyday use. It’s a medium size pen overall – not too big or thick, and not too light or thin. Just the right size for continued use of taking notes throughout the day. Whether you’re actually a student or at the office and need a work-horse of a pen to last the day.

Importantly, this pen doesn’t come with a converter, though it does accept a Kaweco Slide Converter. I like that you can still use your favorite bottled ink with this fountain pen. I opted to test it with Private Reserve’s Shoreline Gold cartridge. I think this ink matches the pen quite nicely!
