Montegrappa Zero Pen Collection

I opened the box, full of eager anticipation. Ready to see what the latest and greatest is created for us pen enthusiasts. From the genius minds at Montegrappa Italy, they did it again. They bring another masterpiece in the Montegrappa Zero Pen Collection. The Zero brings us back to basics in the first tier of this contemporary collection. After careful examination of this pen, I am truly impressed. I see why it’s such a great addition to the Montegrappa lineup of writing instruments.

The Montegrappa Zero Pen Collection reflects a modern design. Reminiscent of a fine mechanical timepiece, the Zero is much more than just an accessory. While looking great in the hand, there is also great functionality. Offering all three modes of writing (fountain pen, rollerball, and ballpoint), you can feel the quality in each.

First of all, even though it’s a modern design, the colors so far are very classic. The black with gold trim is exactly that. It’s a resin cap and barrel, with a wonderfully shiny luster to contrast the brushed metal appointments.

As for the Caramel finish, pictures just can’t seem to do it justice as to the depth of those lines. It’s as close to looking like a wood finish without it actually being made of wood. The gold trim complements the Caramel finish very nicely as well. A cool side note is how the Caramel is exclusive to the U.S.!

Next that’s noteworthy for the aesthetics is the top of the cap (and the bottom as well on the fountain pen and rollerball). The crown features sapphire glass set in a miniature bezel. There’s also a continuation of the black or caramel material set under the glass.

Also, very important to mention for the Montegrappa Zero Pen Collection is the clip. This clip is among the more solid pen clips I’ve enjoyed using. It’s thick, sturdy, and you can tell it’s not going to break on you. Not only that, but Montegrappa brags that these brass clips are stress tested for more than 20,000 actions.

Continuing with the functionality, I love how the threads on the fountain pen are made of metal. The fountain pen also employs use of an international cartridge or converter. For me this is super-convenient since I’m always on the go.

Finally, the nib on the fountain pen is epic. It’s the new JoWo nib and feed, which means ink will flow easily and consistently. As usual, we offer all six nib sizes: Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad, Stub 1.1, and Stub 1.5. Please keep in mind that specialty nibs and 14k gold nibs take longer to get in.

All three modes of the Zero are nicely weighted. You can feel how substantial this pen is from the moment you pick it up. My first thought (other than I need one or two for myself), is how great of a gift these would make. Whether it’s a group of corporate gifts or to mark a special occasion, they are definitely competition for some of the other high end pens (i.e. watch out Montblanc).
