Pineider Alchemist Stromboli Black Pen Collection

Lately I’ve been writing about pens with a little more flair, sparkle, and personality to them. Sometimes you just want a solid workhorse of a pen. What better pen collection fits that description than one made of a million-year old volcanic lava composite? That’s right, I’m talking about the new Pineider Alchemist Stromboli Black Pen Collection. Back in October 2021, I reviewed the Pineider Alchemist Kilauea Blue Pen Collection (see it here). Already, Pineider released two new colors in the collection: black and green (stay tuned for that review soon).

First of all, the Pineider Alchemist Stromboli Black Pen Collection is comprised of three modes of writing: fountain pen, rollerball, and ballpoint. This much is identical to the Kilauea Blue. The fountain pen is available in two modes. First is the version with a 14k gold Iperflex nib. Wow, that nib certainly writes smooth as butter! This says a lot considering I’m using the extra fine nib, and those don’t usually start off smooth. You still have the choices of: extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and stub nib sizes. Enjoy a high-capacity piston filling mechanism on this fountain pen.

At the same time, the Pineider Alchemist Stromboli Black fountain pen with a steel nib is nothing to sneeze at. The steel nib is also wonderful to write with. Enjoy your choice of: extra fine, fine, and medium nib sizes. I wonder why there’s no broad nib size option. This fountain pen uses a cartridge/converter filling system, which is just as easy as the piston to use. I’d recommend filling either fountain pen with Monteverde’s Mercury Noir ink for a darker red to contrast the black body of the pen.

Finally, the fountain pen and rollerball are equipped with the secure magnetic cap lock mechanism. This is stronger than you might imagine. You can rest assured that your pen is securely covered. The rollerball refills with Schmidt 888 or 5888 rollerball refills. What I love about the ballpoint is its smooth twist-action retraction mechanism. It’s easy to use one-handed. I recommend refilling it with your favorite Monteverde Parker Style ballpoint or gel refills.
