Pineider Forged Carbon Fiber Fountain Pen

Pineider Forged Carbon Fiber Fountain Pen

Every once in a while there comes along a pen that I absolutely have to have. When the pen is so unique and special that it’s not like others in my collection, it really stands out. I’ve wanted the Pineider Forged Carbon Fiber Fountain Pen ever since it was initially released. This is a limited edition out of 888 pieces that is truly amazing in every way. Also, full disclosure, I’m interested in anything made with carbon fiber. Therefore, when I saw this entire pen made of forged carbon fiber (different from regular carbon fiber), it was a no-brainer for me to get. I haven’t been able to put this pen down since getting it – yes, it’s that pleasurable to write with.

First of all, the Pineider Forged Carbon Fiber Fountain Pen is equipped with an epic 14k gold Iperflex nib. In keeping with Pineider’s quill theme, they call this a Quill nib. While I wouldn’t call it a fully flexible nib like you find with vintage pens and Spencerian nibs, this is a truly soft nib that conforms to your writing style without needing to apply pressure. The nib glides effortlessly across your paper. Choose from: extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and stub. I specifically chose the extra fine nib on mine because of the potential for line variation. It writes like a dream. I filled mine with Monteverde’s Monteverde Green ink, and think it looks wonderful from nib to paper.

Secondly, what we traditionally think of as carbon fiber are actually strands of carbon fiber woven tightly, and held together by a resin. This pen, being made of forged carbon fiber, is made by forgoing weaving the carbon fiber, and inserting the material into a heated press at high pressure. Due to this process, each casual fiber pattern is unique which adds to the pen’s aesthetic beauty. Not to mention, this pen is technically part of the La Grande Bellezza (The Great Beauty) collection, and therefore retains the same comfortable size and shape you may be familiar with.

Third, the cap closure system employs Pineider’s magnetic locking mechanism. It’s a smooth and secure way to quickly open and close your pen. Another unique feature on the cap is the clip. The Pineider Forged Carbon Fiber fountain pen is equipped with their Quill clip. The clip is very “springy”, yet remains functional in keeping your pen attached to whatever you clip it to.

Continuing with the filling system is Pineider’s new “Mystery Filler”. It’s basically a piston filling mechanism that activates/de-activates when you push the button on the back of the barrel. This is really easy to use, and you can check the ink level in the viewing window toward the grip section.

While the Pineider Forged Carbon Fiber is also made in a rollerball, I chose to focus on the fountain pen for this review since it’s extra special. Finally, the presentation is complete with Pindeider’s gift box. Inside you’ll also find their Pen Filler, which is a travelling inkwell.
