Platinum Curidas Fountain Pen

When I first heard about the new Platinum Curidas fountain pen, I got really excited. Now there’s a modern alternative to the Pilot Vanishing Point. That’s already an incredible pen with great value. I couldn’t wait to see what Platinum would bring to the game. This is actually an homage to the design of the 55 year old Platinum Knock fountain pen. Finally the Platinum Curidas fountain pen arrived, and boy did they deliver.

No question, this is a substantial pen. You really get a good grip on its thicker body. Yet since it’s made of resin, it’s not as heavy as you might expect. I love how the resin is translucent, so you can easily see all the inner mechanics.

Also important is the length. It’s definitely a longer pen than most. The push button mechanism is almost an inch long, and is therefore what makes it so big. Luckily, this doesn’t affect the pen’s balance.

Another great feature is how the steel nib fully extends out of the pen. This provides a bit of “give” as you apply more pressure to the nib. There’s still a cover that slides easily back and forth over the nib.

Looking at the barrel, there are two protrusions: the clip and a built-in “pen rest”. It’s amazing how neither one gets in the way or interferes with gripping the Curidas while writing. The clip is detachable, and sits almost 1/3 of the way down. There’s also a neat tool enclosed in the box that aids in removing and re-attaching the clip. As for the “pen rest”, it’s open in the middle for part of the cover to slide into.

As you open and close the barrel of the Platinum Curidas fountain pen, there are plenty of threads to keep it securely connected.

I especially like the intricacy of the cartridge/converter cover. The nib section has a tiny metal dot that slides and locks into the cover. Finally, that cover has a grey dot that slides and locks into the front half of the barrel.

Overall, the techie and gadget lover in me is elated to have a pen with so much value, at such a great price.
