S.T. Dupont Diamond Guilloche Pen Collection

I wish you all a happy, healthy New Year as we round off 2020 with this final installment blog post of the year. It seems like 2020 was a great year for U.S.A. exclusive limited edition pens. We see limited editions all the time from pen brands across the board. But seeing an uptick in the L.E.’s that are exclusive to the U.S.A. is kinda cool. S.T. Dupont is a brand that’s known for being luxurious, and almost to the point of being like jewelry in its extravagance. Their pens are made with legendary quality and excellence that makes you want them in your collection. So, when I saw the new S.T. Dupont Diamond Guilloche Pen Collection that’s also exclusive to the U.S.A., I had to try them out for myself.
The colors are brilliant. The Diamond Guilloche finish sparkles (no, not like glitter AT ALL) with three unique colors: Ruby, Sapphire, and Aquamarine. First, Ruby is a red with great depth while still exuding a bright luster. Similarly, Sapphire glows like its namesake of the gemstone. Such a beautiful blue will have you staring more at your pen than the paper you’re writing on. I know I had that problem with all three colors. Lastly, Aquamarine makes you think of the clear blue seas. It’s energizing and invigorating to look at. Definitely hard to pick a favorite color with this series, since they’re all so captivating.
Importantly, the process of creating such a finish is very special. The S.T. Dupont Diamond Guilloche Pen Collection uses the crafting technique called “guilloche under lacquer”. The diamond design is engraved with the guilloche process using very precise, intricate movements into the underlying material. Afterward, many layers upon layers of colored Urushi lacquer are applied. The whole process of applying so much Urushi lacquer and then polishing takes many months to accomplish.
Adding even more “newness” is the newly updated and revamped Line D model pen that the S.T. Dupont Diamond Guilloche Pen Collection is built upon. It’s a larger pen to begin with, and I love how it feels in my hand. Even though the pen is made of all metal, it’s not too heavy. There’s really only one thing I don’t like about this pen – the clip. It’s too long for my taste, as it comes down almost to the bottom of the cap. I also don’t like how it tapers to a (rounded) point, almost like a sword. The cap closes snugly and securely using a friction-fit system. There’s definitely satisfaction as the cap “clinks” into place.
Available as a fountain pen and rollerball only, there’s plenty of variety to choose from. Though, I wish there was a ballpoint option as well. The fountain pen is equipped with a 14k gold nib, and your choice of either extra fine, fine, medium, or broad points. S.T. Dupont’s gold nibs are amazing. I love how well they write. It produces a smooth, consistent line. Another great detail is that this pen uses an international size cartridge/converter filling system. The rollerball uses proprietary S.T. Dupont rollerball refills. However, did you know you can also use the Lamy M63 rollerball refills if you want an alternative?
The bottom line is that you’re getting enormous value packed into one stunning pen.
