Tibaldi N60 Pen Collection
Happy Monday everyone! I hope this finds you well, and brings some cheer to a snowy day! Tibaldi pens have always been unique and colorful – from their vintage pens through present day ones. This Italian pen company is a higher-end luxury brand. Their pens are also stylish and trendy. Tibaldi was born in Florence, Italy in 1916 as the brainchild of Giuseppe Tibaldi. He led the way with innovative pen ideas and designs for many years (until 1965). Now Tibaldi is reborn, capturing their original style and flair. Therefore, when I saw the new Tibaldi N60 Pen Collection, I was impressed but not surprised by how great it is.
The first thing I noticed was the colors. With four extravagant color choices, they really stand out. The Tibaldi N60 Pen Collection is available in your choice of: Ruby Red, Emerald Green (my favorite), Amber Yellow, and Samarkand Blue (surprisingly another favorite of mine – similar to the Conklin All American Southwest Turquoise finish). Each color is wonderfully vibrant.
The second thing I noticed was actually the packaging. The box that the Tibaldi N60 comes in is rather sturdy compared to most cardboard gift boxes. Another aspect is that of opening the box. You might wonder why this is such a big deal to me. After opening so many types of pen boxes over the years, the best ones are the easiest to open and not feel like they’re so flimsy that they might break while you’re using the pen.
It boils down to functionality overall. Not only is the construction of the box solid, it’s also easy to remove the inner tray from either side. So many times I’ve been frustrated with having to figure out how to access the pen inside, like it’s a puzzle waiting for me to claim the inner prize. Last is the elastic band holding the pen in place. How many times have you gone to remove the pen from inside the box only to find it held so securely in place by the strap that it was actually a challenge to remove the pen without damaging the strap? Well, this is a thick elastic band that holds the pen in place while still allowing for easy removal when you’re ready to do so.
As for the pens themselves, the N60 is a full-size pen. What I mean by that is the length is longer than your average pen. As for thickness, that’s more of an average/medium size. I love how that makes the overall balance so comfortable to hold. And I’m referring to all three modes with these measurements. The clip is also a solid, tension clip. I like how thick the clip is, and how it doesn’t feel like I’ll snap it off with too much use.
The fountain pen uses a steel nib with your choice of extra fine, fine, medium, broad, double broad. Filling it is easy with an international size cartridge/converter filling system. I can imagine filling the Emerald Green with Monteverde’s Monteverde Green. The Ruby Red would look great with Diamine’s Oxblood. The Amber Yellow would look nice with the Monteverde Sweet Life Mango Mousse. And Monteverde’s Sweet Life Iced Cookie would probably match the Samarkand Blue nicely.
The rollerball uses Schmidt 888 or 5888 rollerball refills. This is a big deal that it’s not a proprietary refill since those can be hard to track down. Get the best of both worlds with the rollerball – the cap and the liquid ink of a fountain pen, with the hard point of a ballpoint. Speaking of the ballpoint, it’s perfect for one-handed twist-action retraction. I like using the Monteverde Parker Style Superbroad ballpoint refill in this. The ballpoint is so easy to twirl around in the hand while thinking of what to write next, fyi.
