TWSBI Diamond 580 Fountain Pen

TWSBI Diamond 580 Fountain Pen

This blog entry is more than just a review – it’s also an announcement: Bertram’s Inkwell is carrying TWSBI pens again! TWSBI has always been a brand I enjoy using. Two of their first pens I ever bought were the Diamond 540, and the Vac700 in blue. They’re practical, affordable, and are made with high quality parts and material. TWSBI upgraded the 540 model to the new TWSBI Diamond 580 Fountain Pen with even better specs. Even though TWSBI describes their own fountain pens as simplistic, classic, and traditional, I feel like they’re very modern looking. Not that that’s a bad thing of course. I like everything about the TWSBI Diamond 580 Fountain Pen – from its form, function, practicality, length, girth, heft, and feels great in the hand. This is a substantial fountain pen.

First of all, the TWSBI Diamond 580 Fountain Pen is completely able to be disassembled and reassembled by the user. I love the engineering aspect of this. If you need access to a specific area of your fountain pen (perhaps for cleaning purposes), then TWSBI makes it so easy to do.

Secondly, the piston filling mechanism on the Diamond 580 is wonderful. It’s got smooth twist-action, and high-capacity ink storage (about 30% more than previous models).

Importantly, while the Diamond 580 model has variations, there are currently only two colors designated as simply the “Diamond 580”. They include the Clear, and Smoke Rose Gold II. I’ll cover the others in a blog review coming soon. As you might imagine, the Clear is completely clear with only the chrome trim accenting the pen. The Smoke Rose Gold II has a darker grey grip section, piston knob, and cap with a clear demonstrator barrel as well. There’s beautiful rose gold trim accenting the pen.

Finally, you get to choose which nib size to write with. TWSBI offers: extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and stub in a smooth steel nib.
