TWSBI Vac700R Fountain Pen

Many times when choosing a fountain pen, overall value plays an integral part of the decision making process. What features are you looking for in your fountain pen? What price range do you want to stay in? Which nib size and material do you prefer? How about the filling system – is that important to you? Is this fountain pen optimal for everyday use? When you’re looking at a pen for yourself, these are just some of the many questions you may reflect on. There’s a pen that I feel touches on the best of all these qualities in each question. The TWSBI Vac700R Fountain Pen provides the most “bang for your buck” in so many ways.
First of all, the features you get with the TWSBI Vac700R Fountain Pen for the $65 retail price is a huge wow factor. Secondly, there are so few fountain pens in that price range that offer a vacuum filling system. I’m a huge fan of vacuum fillers for their ease of use, and storage capacity. These fountain pens tend to hold a ton of ink. And there are few things worse than when you’re on a roll with writing, and all of a sudden your pen starts to go dry. Thirdly, as for the ease of use, you can fill it with one hand. This leaves your other hand free to help tilt your bottle of ink if necessary.
Another feature of the TWSBI Vac700R Fountain Pen is its transparence. With the capacity to hold a whopping 2.37mL of ink, it’s important as well as fun to see all that ink sloshing around inside your pen. This way it minimizes the risk of running low on ink before leaving the house and writing with your pen. Since it’s a demonstrator fountain pen that currently only has two color options, the Clear and the Iris (an anodized rainbow finish on the trim), there are so many inks that would look wonderful to match. But if I had to pick one, I’d recommend Monteverde’s Jungle Ink Crocodile Green. The reason is simple. It’s a dark enough green that it’ll show beautifully regardless of which nib size you choose.
Importantly, there are plenty of nib options on the Vac700R. It comes in a steel nib only, and is available in extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and 1.1 Stub (for a slight surcharge). These steel nibs are smooth, and provide a consistent flow of ink. The built-in ink shutoff valve also makes this fountain pen even more portable without fear of leaking or any sort of mess.
Finally, included in the box are a wrench, silicone grease, and O-rings. TWSBI wants to give you a more traditional ownership experience of a fountain pen. They believe it’s important for you, the user, to be able to disassemble, clean, care for, and reassemble your fountain pen completely.
