Visconti Divina Elegance Bordeaux Collection

Visconti Divina Elegance Bordeaux Collection

The Visconti Divina has a long, rich history since its original release in 2007. It all started with the Divina Proporzione. I remember seeing the elaborate presentation box the pen came in, and being impressed with both. The box contained a device used in measuring this golden ratio as well. The brown burlwood box matches the beautiful brown celluloid pen material. In the years that followed, the Divina Collection saw other variations such as a brown resin with beautiful swirls, and an all-black collection. The Divine Proportion pen is representative of the Divine Proportion itself (aka The Golden Ratio), which is 1:1.618. It’s a mathematical proportion that is very pleasing to our aesthetic sense, and is found the world over in nature – even the dimensions of your credit card. The new Visconti Divina Elegance Bordeaux Collection continues use of the Divine Proportion in its measurements.

First, the Visconti Divina Elegance Bordeaux Collection helps you see the world through a new lens. It’s prismatic how the light reflects off of the pearlescent high-quality resin. The pen is definitely inspiring. Not only does the deep Bordeaux color show perfectly, but the Sterling Silver stripes running down the length of the pen is exactly as the name describes – elegant.

Interestingly, the cap follows the rules of the Golden Ratio by measuring .618 of the entire length of the pen itself. It uses the Hook Safe Lock mechanism. One of the first things I notice when holding the Divina is its shape. The swirl, or spiral, shape of the entire pen sits so comfortably in the hand. It’s contoured to fit the grooves of your fingers for maximum enjoyment.

Importantly, the Visconti Divina Elegance Bordeaux Collection is available in fountain pen, rollerball, and ballpoint. The fountain pen is modified and enhanced from previous versions. The cap posts easily (on the rollerball as well). There is no longer an ink viewing window. Instead it’s been replaced with a band of Sterling Silver. Now equipped with Visconti’s in-house 18k gold nib, you can choose from extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and stub. Can you imagine filling this pen with an equally beautiful (matching) red ink such as Monteverde’s Red Velvet ink? I think that pairs perfectly. Lastly, yet probably the best improvement, is the new Pull & Turn piston filling system. It’s so much easier to fill.

As with the fountain pen, the rollerball also has a good amount of heft. It’s a wonderful feel in the hand when you have a substantial writing instrument like this. The rollerball conveniently uses Schmidt 888 or 5888 rollerball refills.

Last but not least is the ballpoint. I love the smooth twist-action retraction. It’s easily activated with one hand. Adding to the fun is being able to refill with Monteverde Parker Style ballpoint or gel refills. I like the idea of having a red gel for this pen.
