Visconti Erotic Art Shunga Fountain Pen
Share
This is the second installment of my Blast From The Past series. I’m excited to share a very specific pen with you. As you may be aware, Bertram’s Inkwell does a lot with buying, selling, and trading previously owned pens. So, when Bert got in the Visconti Erotic Art Shunga Fountain Pen, it was a no-brainer for me to share with you all. This is a limited edition, number 909 of 1069. I love how this pen combines two things that most of us enjoy: a fantastic, high-quality fountain pen, and the more intimate nature of humans. Every detail of this pen is incredible – from the box/packaging to the pen itself.
There are a few versions of the Visconti Casanova Erotic Art fountain pen. Originally, Visconti made a “softer” version of the Erotic Art pen with more subtle artwork depicting love scenes. This limited edition is definitely not that version. While you can see subtle artwork engraved on the vermeil outer barrel sleeve, upon carefully unscrewing the sleeve, you are treated to a very colorful display of erotic scenes called Shunga.
These Shunga panels of artwork were originally used to instruct new brides, illustrate love stories, and were carried by warriors as lucky charms during war time. The vivid images painted on the inner barrel are representative of this early use in history. Of course, this isn’t Visconti’s only “love themed” pen. I have a Visconti fountain pen beautifully hand-airbrushed by renowned artist Claudio Mazzi of the nude female figure in my collection that attests to this. But I digress.
This Visconti Erotic Art Shunga fountain pen is approximately the same girth as the Visconti Homo Sapiens Maxi fountain pen, and only a few millimeters longer. It also has the older “wavy” clip that’s so easy to clip onto your shirt pocket or pen case as needed. The darker ebonite on the cap and end-cap of the barrel and grip section matches the vermeil trim perfectly.
As for the filling system, this functional fountain pen uses my favorite method of filling fountain pens – a vacuum filling system. With quick, easy, one-handed use, your pen is ready to perform and last as long as you need it to. Rest assured that this particular pen’s nib size of a medium nib is more than big enough to satisfy. The highly coveted 18k gold nib is smooth as silk, and will conform to your writing style perfectly.
