Visconti Homo Sapiens Tuscan Hills Collection

If there was ever a pen collection from Visconti that went above and beyond expectations, it’s the Homo Sapiens collection. From its inception with introducing the original Bronze Age version, the Visconti Homo Sapiens continues to reinvent itself. The newest is a limited edition of 888 pieces called the Visconti Homo Sapiens Tuscan Hills Collection. These pens have a calm, serene personality, while retaining the elegance and classiness of its “siblings”. A pen like this commands attention. It wields a stage presence that says “you want to watch what I’m about to write”. In other words, regardless of whether you own the fountain pen or rollerball version, you are demonstrating your panache.
While the main (and most important) color of the Visconti Homo Sapiens Tuscan Hills Collection is green, it’s noteworthy to mention that there are subtle brown swirls throughout the cap and barrel. As you might have guessed, these colors are designed to conjure up images of the Tuscan Hills in Italy. Yet there is also a translucent aspect to the pen, which I always enjoy. When you can slightly see the inner mechanics of your pen, that becomes extra convenient – especially in making sure your fountain pen isn’t running low on ink before heading out for the day. Also, rather than using chrome or steel appointments, Visconti uses Sterling Silver appointments throughout this model.
First of all, I like how Visconti retained their Hook Safe Lock mechanism on these caps. They feel extra safe and secure while carrying and handling them. As with the other Homo Sapiens models, the Tuscan Hills is perfectly balanced. It’s not too heavy overall either. I like how they feel so comfortable in the hand.
Secondly, the fountain pen is equipped with a vacuum filling system (my favorite filling system). This makes it so easy to fill and empty your pen in a flash. It also makes cleaning and maintenance super easy. The in-house Visconti 18k gold nib is available in your choice of: extra fine, fine, medium, broad, and stub. I think that Private Reserve’s Avocado ink would match perfectly coming out of this pen. Last but not least is the rollerball. It refills easily with Schmidt 888 or 5888 rollerball refills.
