Visconti Mirage Ballpoint Pen
Back in 2018, Visconti launched the Mirage collection with the fountain pen and rollerball options only. You can read my previous review of the Visconti Mirage fountain pen here. It was a strong start, and I still love everything about the Mirage to this day. Therefore, you can imagine how happy I was to discover the new release of the Visconti Mirage ballpoint pen.
The Mirage ballpoint is still made in six different color options: Night Blue, Amber, Horn, Coral, Aqua, and Emerald (still my favorite). These colors are bright as ever, made with Visconti’s high quality vegetal resin. The depth of these colors goes beyond most resins. I love the swirls all over both the cap and the barrel.
As pen designs go, the Visconti Mirage ballpoint pen maintains a smooth surface alternating between fluid lines that are both concave and convex, just as its predecessors in fountain pen and rollerball do. These reflective panes give off the appearance of shapes and colors that continuously change. A great ballpoint like this is not as commonplace. It’s the perfect pen to brighten your day with these fun colors.
One of the great things about this pen is its shape. The entire pen has almost a conical shape, tapering down as you get closer to the grip section. Yet the body is thick enough to stay comfortable in the hand. In addition to the iconic Visconti clip being fun to play with since it’s spring-loaded, the smooth twist-action retraction mechanism is also entertaining to activate and retract.
The cap band is notably thicker than on other pens. It’s got the same elongated “S” shape decorating the whole band. It’s separated by the word “Mirage”, lest you forget which model pen you are using. At least this way if you give the pen as a gift (which makes for a really perfect gift, by the way), the user or recipient knows exactly what pen they own.
Like with most Visconti ballpoint pens, the Mirage uses a standard Parker Style refill. And as usual, we recommend the Monteverde Parker Style Superbroad ballpoint refill. I also really like the broad gel to have an even more smooth gliding effect. Yet if you want to try matching five of the six colors (sorry, no grey ink), you can do that with the medium point ballpoint or the fine point gel.
