Pelikan Souveran R400 Tortoiseshell-Brown Rollerball

For decades, Pelikan's flagship Souverän line of pens has been prized for its exemplary craftsmanship, and elegant design. The R400 is the smallest and lightest member of this family—perfect for those with smaller hands but equally comfortable for those with larger hands when the cap is posted on the back of the pen.

A classic of the Pelikan line, the finish dates back to the 1930’s. The striped material in rich tortoise with subtle orange and gold highlights will make any pen lover’s heart beat a little faster. The cellulose acetate finish is slightly translucent – you can see the shadow of your ink level – and is accented with high-quality brown resin and rich 24K gold plated fittings. 

Souverän - A world-famous classic. The production of the Souverän sleeve is subject to an elaborate process. The typical, striped material is made out of cotton based on a formula developed specially for Pelikan. It takes a month until the block providing the stripes is finished, whereupon the tailor-made plating is curved and cut into a contour using a natural diamond. The characteristic 24-carat gold-plated double rings are then integrated into the cap and barrel with the utmost precision. The writing instrument is then polished until it reaches a brilliant luster.
