Following the Buddha and Ganesh collections, Caran d'Ache has once again called on the inventiveness of Edouard Jud to create a magnificent piece in its Artist Collection.

Edouard Jud is the 14th member of a famous family of jewelers. Born in 1933 in Gossau, he became a master of the complex arts of chiseling, stone setting, and engraving as well as the techniques of lacquering. His love for creative design led him to specialise in the production of writing instruments and his passion for excellence it was quite natural that he would soon cross paths with Caran d'Ache, Maison de Haute Ecriture. Together, they have given birth to several exceptional pieces that are authentic works of art.

African Masks: A Thousand-Year-Old Secret

Tribal masks have been part of African life since the dawn of time, and they are steeped in mystery. Some of these spectacular works of art are priceless, and the secret of how they are made is discreetly passed on from generation to generation. Minute detailing and precision, as often including genuine goldsmith work, transform these craft objects into superb works of ornamental art. Tribal African Masks is a masterpiece intended for lovers of primitive art, a sincere tribute to tribal art, and is unique techniques. Each of these pens is produced entirely in Caran d'Ache's Geneva workshops with relentless attention to detail and is given a lifetime guarantee. The beauty of these pieces comes from the judgement precision, and delicacy of the craftsmanship, making this a truly exceptional Limited edition of 128 fountain pens and 64 rollerballs.

The body of the pen, composed of artificially oxidized 800 solid silver, is decorated with various masks, including some with gilded features. Special attention has been paid to the elephant, considered in Africa as the leader animal of the animal kingdom and a symbol of knowledge and wisdom. The ring of the pen carries Caran d'Ache logo as well as the pen's number and the master craftsman's mark, which guarantee the origin and certification of each piece. It is also here that the artist, Edouard Jud, has individually signed each of the writing instruments in the collection. Like the body of the pen, the solid silver pen shows mask designs with gilded details. It is crowned with a tiger eye, a magnificent 1.5 carat stone from South Africa, 8.5mm in diameter and cut as a cabochon.
