The Conway Stewart Fifth Element, made exclusively for Japan, joins our line of Elegance series limited editions, following the success of the Deco Diamond and the sold-out Westminster. Each edition from the Elegance series has a unique design and is produced to the highest standard of English craftsmanship.
In ancient and medieval thought, aether, also known as the fifth element or quintessence (commonly known as energy), was believed to be the pure, incorruptible substance of which the heavenly bodies were composed.
Conway Stewart Fifth Element fountain pen represents spirituality.
Only 100 pieces were made world-wide. Lovingly crafted from English hallmarked solid sterling silver, the Fifth Element features hand applied rich glowing bright Flame Yellow enamel that is layered over the deep guilloche engraving on the barrel mixing together to emphasize the gentle curves of the deep engravings on the barrel, the combination representing spirituality.
The flowing engraving design is offset by the crisp outline of horizontal lines and diamonds in the bright flame yellow enamel hand set into the gleaming sterling silver cap.
The exclusive designs featured on the Conway Stewart Elegance model began with the cap and barrel hand crafted at our factory in Devon, England from rods of solid sterling silver. Each writing instrument is then carefully engraved with intricate patterns and accented with a hand applied enamel by award winning craftsman Robert Glover, whose work has been published in numerous industry titles and who is the recipient of many notable awards and presentations.
Not only is there an art in the creation of the enamel colours, and the application of multiple layers to our sterling silver pens (Robert often uses a trimmed natural goose quill to apply the various colours of enamel) there is a significant craft to the careful hand polishing of the finished enamel piece to render every enamel surface precisely the correct depth above the guilloche engraving to allow for the best reflection of transmitted light through the vibrant colours.
The hallmarked solid sterling silver construction of the cap, barrel and front section are set off with our popular 18 carat two-tone gold nib, accented with rhodium plating. The Elegance model is crafted to be ergonomic in shape, slightly tapered and is a mid sized pen that rests perfectly in the hand, a perfect harmony of balance and elegance for ease of writing.
The Elegance Fifth Element Limited Edition is available in a limited edition of only 100 pieces in Japan offering a wonderful opportunity to experience the finest in English craftsmanship in a truly exclusive fine writing instrument.
