The Blue and Gold Ribbed Pen represents the fulfillment of a dream to create the most beautiful writing instrument in the world. It was truly a labor of love requiring nearly two years in design, planning, and production. Every part, every angle, each engraving and color was selected in such a way as to have its own personality. When combined, they create a work of art that is one of a kind.

Only 4,321 numbered pieces were produced, 3,000 fountain pens and 1,321 rollerball and ballpoints, all numbered and engraved with the year of issue, 1995.

The outer portions of the crown and leaves are cast by jewelers in .925 sterling silver and coated with five microns of 22 karat gold. The inner parts are cast, guilloched, enameled, and polished.

Never have so many artisan techniques been brought together to produce a unique writing instrument with such fine detail.

Guilloche is a machined engraved pattern applied to metal to enhance the beauty of the surface much like facets on a diamond. After the .925 sterlng ilsver is guilloched to our special pattern, a translucent cobalt blue enamel is hand applied and polished in ten separate steps.

This organic enamel was chosen for its color match to the original egg and to conform to our strict standards of durability, flexibility, and luminosity. Light refracts through the enamel in a blaze of ever-changing shades, ranging from dark blue, almost black, to a brilliant sapphire.

The Blue and Gold Ribbed is the first in a series of beautifully crafted writing instruments distinctly fashioned after individual Faberge Eggs. Bored from rods of sterling (.925) silver, guilloched and layered with 22 karat gold, this one-of-a-kind masterpiece brings to life the artistic majesty of the Blue and Gold Ribbed Egg. Only 4,321 pieces will ever be produced.

Since the development of the modern fountain pen, the process involved in transferring liquid ink from its storage container to the paper has changed very little. The feeder system is one of the integral parts that makes this process possible.

In a small town outside Paris, France, Michel Perchin manufactured their feeders one at a time in a manner that guarantees the finest delivery system in the world.  They start with solid rods of ebonite, a special form of hardened rubber that has a porous nature. The ebonite is machined to carefully monitored specifications, resulting in a feeder that matches our nib exactly. Each feeder accepts either screw-in convertors or ink cartridges of standard European size.

To complete this exceptional writing instrument no expense has been spared. In Heidelberg, Germay, 24 karat gold is alloyed with other metals to achive the perfect blend for strength and flexibility, producing 18 karat gold sheets from which the nib is formed to precise specifications and then engraved.

Iridium, a much harder metal, is welded on the tip. Finally, the nib is plated to accent our mascot, the Elephant and Tower, and the entire surface is polished. The result is the finest precision nib used on any pen in the world today.

This edition was created with Michel Perchin's highest standards in Europe and mounted with smooth writing 18K gold nibs and ebonite feeders to enhance the ink flow.

Michel Perchin writing instruments give the word quality a new meaning. Their unique designs reach back into time to capture elegance unknown in today’s world of mass production. No expense is spared in materials and workmanship. The result is a powerful statement of value to be handed down from one generation to the next. The uncompromising quality of Michel Perchin writing instruments is recognized by their presence in the Pen Museum, in Paris, France.
