In 2013, Montegrappa released their third collection of pens in the very exclusive Genio Creativo series. This collection honors Salvador Dalí. Dalí was a visionary who personified surrealism and was also a writer, filmmaker, and designer—a creative genius, really.

Not everyone gets the honor and recognition of becoming one of the "Genio Creativo" of the Montegrappa Collection. Salvador Dali does. The Spanish genius joins Antonio Stradivari and Amadeo Modigliani in this collection of limited-edition fountain pens. The high quality and exquisite design make this Montegrappa Fountain Pen Salvador Dali Limited Edition a great tribute to Dali's technical skills and unique visual sense. Proof of this is the support provided by the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí, which supervised and licensed this project.

The design of the Montegrappa Fountain Pen Salvador Dali Limited Edition is a masterpiece in itself. It features an elephant, symbolizing strength and protection, a testament to Dali's love for Gala. The elongated legs of the elephant represent the patience he had when she denied him visits, a surrealistic expression of love that will infuse your writings with its unique charm.

On the Montegrappa Fountain Pen Salvador Dali Limited Edition, the elephant embraces a barrel of Mediterranean blue celluloid for the silver edition or in malachite green for the solid gold version, the same way that the cap embraces the whole body of the pen. When the pen is opened, a quote from the autobiography, The Secret Life of Salvador Dali, is shown on the inner barrel.

Limited Edition consists of only 1000 sterling silver fountain pens (with an 18K solid gold nib and a piston filler) and 989 rollerball pens, denoting 1989, when Dali died. 19 solid gold rollerball pens and 61 fountain pens will represent the year that the Space Elephant was created. The pens are showcased in an egg-shaped limited edition packaging in recognition of another Daliesque surreal image. Continuing the hidden symbolism and surreal ways of expressing Dali's feelings, the egg symbolizes hope and love.

Montegrappa Pen History

Montegrappa Pens, the first Italian manufacturer of writing instruments, opened in Bassano del Grappa in 1912. Nearly a century of superb craftsmanship has passed for this Italian brand, known worldwide for its Italian creativity and style.
The same historical building since 1912, Montegrappa has been a part of the lives of great men, and it has also witnessed moments of intense creativity and innovative breakthroughs. Ernest Hemingway and John Dos Passos, both Red Cross volunteer ambulance drivers during World War I, crossed the threshold of the original factory entrance on Via C. Erizzo that was recently restored. That same entrance was among the first in Italy to see the arrival of celluloid, a precious material obtained from cotton that was already a protagonist of Montegrappa collections in the thirties.

Starting in the late thirties, the modern fountain pen became more than just a writing instrument and was transformed into an accessory that made a fashion statement. Thanks to the wide variety of colors, tasteful design, and special jeweler's techniques (for which the Vicenza area is famous,) Montegrappa became a recognized symbol of excellence. Although shapes and materials may change, all Montegrappa pens possess distinctive features: the octagonal shape, the rotating sphere on the end of the clip, and precious materials such as gold, silver, gems, and celluloid are the unique elements that have made history.

The entire Montegrappa pen range is divided into two large families: the Regular Range, composed of glamorous, beautifully designed accessories that make the daily task of writing much more enjoyable, and the Limited Editions, an extraordinary blend of craftsmanship and beautiful design inspired by the passions and myriad expressions of human creativity and coveted by collectors and connoisseurs.

Much admired and appreciated for its outstanding quality and traditional craftsmanship, Montegrappa Pens has become a world ambassador of Italian style and elegance and is distributed in nearly 60 countries,
