Pelikan Souveran M400 Black-Red Fountain Pen

For decades, Pelikan's flagship Souverän line of fountain pens has been prized for its exemplary craftsmanship, elegant design, high-capacity piston fillers, and luxuriously smooth nibs. The M400 is the smallest and lightest member of this family—perfect for those with smaller hands but equally comfortable for those with larger hands when the cap is posted on the back of the pen. The rich red tone in the striped pattern of the barrel harmonizes wonderfully with the elegant deep black components and is perfectly complemented by the golden trimmings. This classic has returned to Pelikan’s standard product range. The black and red striped barrel is made of cellulose acetate in an elaborate process.

Souverän - A world-famous classic. The production of the Souverän sleeve is subject to an elaborate process. The typical, striped material is made out of cotton based on a formula developed specially for Pelikan. It takes a month until the block providing the stripes is finished, whereupon the tailor-made plating is curved and cut into a contour using a natural diamond. The characteristic 24-carat gold-plated double rings are then integrated into the cap and barrel with the utmost precision. The writing instrument is then polished until it reaches a brilliant luster. The fountain pen has a handcrafted 18kt bi-color gold and rhodium nib. It fills only from an ink bottle. The 800 series has solid brass inner components and 18kt gold layered clip and trim.
